Information We Use to Provide Our Products and Services
If you are a customer, we may obtain and provide to you your credit report or other information about you from third party data suppliers. We also may obtain such information as your name, Social Security Number, mailing address, email address, phone number, date of birth, and credit card or other payment information, as needed to provide our products and services to you.
We may use your personal information to:
- process and administer your order for our products and services;
- verify your identity and protect against fraud;
- provide the products and services you request; and
- conduct quality testing and improve our products and services;
We may disclose your personal information to our service providers who help us provide our products and services. We also may disclose that information:
- in accordance with your express instructions or consent, or the express instructions or consent of your authorized representative;
- for fraud prevention;
- to carry out transactions requested by you; and
- as otherwise permitted or required by law.
Information we may disclose to ITAC, the Identity Theft Assistance Center
We may offer you the opportunity to use the victim assistance service provided by ITAC, the Identity Theft Assistance Center, a nonprofit organization. If you accept, you agree that we may disclose your personal information to ITAC. The information we disclose to ITAC will not include the credit report we obtain.
ITAC’s Use of Information
ITAC shares information with the companies that are members of ITAC (see the list of ITAC members at www.identitytheftassistance.org) and with other companies where fraud may have occurred. ITAC will store the personal information in a database that ITAC members may use to detect and prevent fraud. ITAC may use information in the database for analysis, fraud prevention and detection, law enforcement purposes and as otherwise permitted by law. ITAC also may share information with the Federal Trade Commission and with law enforcement agencies for law enforcement purposes.
ITAC will not sell your personal information, use it for marketing, or give it to anyone else for marketing.
Information We May Disclose to Our Affiliates
Our affiliates are entities that are controlled by Intersections Inc., that control Intersections Inc., or are under common corporate control with Intersections Inc. Our affiliates may include financial service providers, such as insurance agencies, and other companies, such as background screening and other identity management companies. The companies to whom we may disclose your personal information, as described above, may include our affiliates. We also may disclose information to our affiliates as permitted or required by law, including disclosure in accordance with your express instructions or consent or the express instructions or consent of your authorized representative.
Information We May Use for Marketing
We may use personal information to contact you about our products and services and the products and services of our affiliates and non-affiliated third parties. The personal information we use for marketing, however, will not include the credit report or other information about you we obtain from third party data suppliers and provide to you as part of our products and services.
By responding to offers of products or services of our affiliates or non-affiliated third parties, you may be disclosing your personal information directly to them. Use and disclosure of your information by them in connection with their products and services is governed by their respective privacy policies. We do not control their use or disclosure of that information.
You may elect not to have us contact you for marketing purposes. You may call us, or if we send you an e-mail primarily for the purpose of marketing, you may follow the instructions in the e-mail.
If you become a customer for our products and services through a financial institution with whom we have a joint marketing agreement, we may disclose certain of your information to that financial institution solely for use in connection with our jointly offered products and services, including marketing of those products and services. The information we disclose, however, will not include the credit report or other information about you we obtain from third party data suppliers and provide to you as part of our products and services.
To access your personal information on our Web site, you are required to select a user name and password. It is your responsibility to restrict access to your user name and password so that only you may gain entry to your personal information online.
Confidentiality and Security
We recognize the importance of advanced security for your information. We maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards to protect your personal information. We also undergo both an annual Web certification and quarterly scans or tests by a nationally recognized computer security firm.
You may access our website through other websites. We are not responsible for the collection of information by those other websites, and are not bound by any policies or statements made on such sites. Other websites, Internet search engines and marketing companies through which you access our website may use persistent or session cookies and collect information such as traffic, viewing and usage patterns.
Our Web site, and our products and services, are designed for use only by individuals who are 13 years or older. We do not knowingly solicit or retain information from individuals who are less than 13 years old. If you are less than 13 years old, please do not submit any personal information to us. In some or all cases, we may elect not to provide our products or services to anyone under 18 years old.
Former Customers and Other Consumers
If we are acquired by another company or business, merge with another company or business, or complete a similar business transaction, your personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will post notice of that transaction on our Web site for a limited period of time.
